Toronto, the vibrant heart of Canada, is a city that embraces diversity, not only in its multicultural populace but also in its dog-friendly attitude. This bustling metropolis offers an array of activities for you and your four-legged friend to enjoy together. From paw-some patios to beautiful parks, there’s no shortage of places where dogs are not just allowed, but welcomed with open arms. So, leash up and embark on a tail-wagging adventure through The Six.

Dog-Friendly Patios

Toronto’s culinary scene is a delight for foodies, and many establishments extend their hospitality to our furry friends. Black Lab Brewing, a favorite among locals, allows dogs inside their brewpub. You can savor their unique craft beers while your pup enjoys the attention from the friendly staff. The Four Seasons Hotel also offers dog-friendly patios where you can dine in style alongside your canine companion.

Parks and Recreation

Toronto is teeming with parks that are perfect for a game of fetch or a leisurely stroll. High Park is an excellent choice, featuring a designated off-leash area where your dog can run free. If you’re up for a short ferry ride, don’t miss Toronto Island Park. It’s a serene escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, with plenty of open spaces for your pooch to explore.

Pet-Friendly Festivals

Throughout the year, Toronto hosts several dog-focused events and festivals. ‘Paws in the Park’ is a popular annual event held in August, providing fun activities for dogs and their owners, including contests, vendors, and even a pet-friendly photo booth!

City Walks and Shopping

Toronto’s charm goes beyond its famous landmarks, offering plenty of dog-friendly walks through its vibrant neighbourhoods. Explore areas like the Distillery District and Kensington Market, where you’ll find a mix of unique shops—many welcoming dogs and even offering treats for your four-legged companion!

Tips for a Smooth Experience

Remember, while Toronto is very dog-friendly, it’s essential to keep your dog leashed in public areas unless designated otherwise. Always clean up after your pet and respect the space of others. Most importantly, ensure your dog is comfortable in public spaces and around other dogs to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone involved.

So pack those treats and get ready to explore Toronto like never before. With so many exciting dog-friendly activities, you and your pet are sure to have a pawsitively fantastic time in this dynamic city!

Over a decade ago, Alison (Ally) Fodero – who was in the middle of completing her Masters degree at the time – returned home from a scuba diving trip to Honduras with an adopted stray dog that had followed her around during her time there. When she returned to the spot a year later, another stray dog became attached to her – one who turned out to be the sister of her dog at home, as a local informed her. Nonetheless, the adoption of the second dog was inevitable and a beautiful reunion ensued in the parking lot at Pearson International Airport. It was then that “Soulmutts” became an idea, one that would begin with one truck, one dog walker, and five or six dogs in a park.
